70 ISRW hosts USAF heritage workout
Rising with the morning sun as the 70th Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance Wing mascot, the Rooster, the men and women of America’s Cryptological Wing congregated to answer the call and complete the CMSAF Heritage Workout at Fort George G. Meade, Md. Sept. 18, 2026.
The Heritage Workout No. 1 titled ‘Birth of the Air Force’, put forth by Chief Master Sgt. Of the Air Force David A. Wolfe encompasses nine rounds of 18 air squats, 19 push-ups, and 47 jumping jacks representing Sept. 18, 1947.
70th ISRW Airmen participated in the Wing led workout as celebration the 79th U.S. Air Force birthday, but with a bit of competition thrown into the mix too. To add the sense of competition to the comradery of the workout each squadron selected two champions, one male and one female, to represent them.
“I was the male Champion for the 41st Intelligence Squadron”, said Tech. Sgt. Sean Stanton. “It was a good workout. It hit all parts of the body, but beyond thatIt’s been a good camaraderie event, especially on the Air Force’sbirthday. You get to see other squadrons instead of just your own. Sometimes it's hard to get something like this going at just the flight level for events, so, going beyond that, beyond the Squadron to the whole Wing is just awesome.”
The champions who could complete the workout the quickest time earned glory for the squadron and coveted points towards the Commander’s Cup. The Commander’s Cup is a year-round competition where units from the installation earn points by joining athletic, team building, and resiliency events. Top teams and individuals are recognized with awards at the end of the season. The Squadron with the most points at the end of the year wins the coveted trophy, displayed at the winning command until the next Commander’s Cup winner is announced.
For the Heritage Workout the champions of the 7th Intelligence Squadron finished first earning their squadron 800 points toward the Commander’s Cup. The 707th Intelligence Support Squadron champions finished second earning 700 points, and the 707 Force Support Squadron champions finished third netting 600 points.
Once the competition portion of the workout was complete all remaining members of the Wing came together to collectively complete the workout.
“I think it's just great,” said Capt. Taylor Vick, Junior Officer Cryptologic Career Program, intern. “Working in a Wing where we're all dispersed, we don't always do a whole lot of Air Force activities together as a large group. So, it's really nice to see everybody come together, do a hard workout, and build the camaraderie.”
